“The mind mirror illumines all ingenuously. Its penetrating, limitless rays reach everywhere in the universe. Without exception, everything is reflected in this mirror. The whole universe is a gem of light beyond the terms of in and out.”
Yoka Daishi (7th cent. CE.)

Life begins anew each day. I am born again today. I’m different from yesterday. I see the sun coming to life. I see it from the car. I’m 7 and my mother drives me to school. I look out the window and see the fresh new sun, the bright light, the white clouds moving around on the big blue sky. I face the sun and my eyes feed on light. My skin feeds on warmth. I drink in the sunshine. I close my eyes and feel the red sun inside my eyelids, inside my blood. I’m full of light inside my body. I open my eyes and see the sun in everything, in every glass or screen, in every water drop, in every me and every you. (excerpt)

“In Between” is an ongoing project describing the temporary nature of things, their only intrinsic quality. Every moment everything changes, including the most solid constructions, the heaviest rocks, the permanent fences, or anything else that appears fixed and unshakeable - visible or not to the human eye. Inherent in their essence, the construction sites are questioning the past and the future, in a never-ending loop, appearing and disappearing all over the place. The project brings together symbols of impermanence and focuses on the space “between”: between subject and object, between now and then, between presence and absence.

wanderer above the sea of tinder
2018 - 2021

A collection of similar Tinder screenshots of calm and peaceful fellows in contemplative states of mind. Looking like they were inspired by Caspar David Friedrich’s 1818 Wanderer above the Sea of Fog, they all gaze at unknown vast territories, mesmerised by nature’s beauty or querying about the unforeseen future. The project questions the way we relate to our inner and outer space, as well as to our online and offline personas.
